The 2 AM Story: When Every Minute Counts
Date: 27 August
Time: 12:30 AM
At 12:30 AM on 27th August, while most of the city was asleep, the emergency team at Aski Hospital sprang into action to save the life of a young woman facing a critical medical emergency.
A 32-year-old woman was urgently referred to Aski Hospital from Ramdurg after experiencing severe pain in the right side of her lower abdomen for several hours. She had previously undergone three Caesarean (C-section) deliveries, making her condition even more complex. By the time she arrived, she was in severe pain and her condition was rapidly worsening.
Within minutes of reaching the hospital, the emergency physicians, gynaecologists and anaesthesia team worked together to assess her condition. Based on her symptoms and examination, the doctors suspected ovarian torsion—a rare but serious emergency in which the ovary twists around its supporting tissues, cutting off its blood supply.
This condition requires immediate surgery. Even a short delay can permanently damage the ovary and lead to serious complications such as internal bleeding, severe infection or even life-threatening illness.
Understanding that every minute mattered, the Aski Hospital team immediately prepared the patient for emergency surgery. The operation theatre, anaesthesia team and surgical staff were mobilised without delay, ensuring that treatment began as quickly as possible.
During surgery, the doctors found that the right ovary had completely lost its blood supply and had become severely damaged. Despite every effort, it could not be saved. To protect the patient's life and prevent further complications, the surgical team successfully removed the damaged ovary along with both fallopian tubes.
